South Pacific
You may wish to brave the lengthy roads by taking the Pan American
highway down towards the South Pacific. But if you wish to arrive fresh
and energized for your travels, take one of the many daily flights that
will take you into the heart of the region.
A truly tropical climate awaits visitors to the South Pacific region.
High humidity and dense vegetation are common but will reward the visitor
with spectacular landscapes and excellent tropical weather. Rain is
frequent but shouldn't put a damper on the visit since they are brief.
Insect repellent and rain gear are appropriate and necessary when traveling
in the area. Rain gear is not quite mandatory since the drenching could
prove refreshing! Keep clothing light and airy and don't forget your
snorkeling equipment since many of the beaches offer hours of one on
one with colorful tropical fish.
Chirripo National Park is a treat to visit. This cloud forest environment
boasts an incredible bounty of flora and fauna for a visitor's eager
eye. Hundreds of species of birds inhabit the lofty boughs and are easier
to see in the early morning hours.
The town of Buenos Aires offers a peek into the lives of the indigenous
Guaymi and Boruca who live in the immediate area. Handicrafts are available
for purchase and are colorful, as well as beautiful. Take home a hand
woven tapestry with a taste of Costa Rica.
